Australia’s Lord Howe Island Group, according to Unesco, was born out of a volcanic activity more than 2,000 million years ago under the sea. This Island is home to world’s unique coral reef and breeding ground of sea birds. Most importantly, the Island received its name from a bird called Lord Howe Phasmid(Dryococelus australis), though feared extinct, is found in Balls’ Pyramid.
This island supports a number of endangered endemic species or subspecies of plants and animals. Name of Howe which primarily now is associated with a bird along with Phasmid, attached to this name, significantly points to two place-names. Chinese pilgrim Hiouen Tsiang visited Hwo country which was neighbourly to the Bird’s Island at Klein; and Phasimid traces its origin to Phasi river Valley. Lord Howe may be identified with Yahweh also; but altogether this name suggests its origin to a group of ancient migrants who named this island and might have abandoned it later. Birth of this island from a volcanic activity is an academic idea only that happened, according to scientists, some 2000 millions of years ago. Names of most of the places in Australia are interestingly seen to be matching with names of places in the ‘first-land’. Name of Phasi itself appears in Homer’s Iliad that refers to El-country or the El-desha of Indian puranas. Australia is identified with Astola of the ancient texts. Name of Phasi may be checked in Fa-hian’s Indian visit account of 5th c A.D.
