These 111 Pile Dwellings around Alps are not prehistoric in nature; collectively they present a clear picture of how migration happened to early European continent after 8th c A.D. in a big way.
Unesco agrees when it remarks that ‘…the ability of the sites to display their value is difficult as they are mostly completely hidden underwater which means that their context in relation to the lake and river shores is important in order to evoke the nature of their setting. …(they)..ensure the understanding of the value of the whole property and how individual sites contribute to that whole..’
The series of pile dwelling sites never represent the characteristics of early agrarian societies in Europe between 5,000 and 500 BC as scholars think; the name Alps and See have been derived from ‘Alavi’/ ‘Alaba’ and ‘Sri’ respectively and both these names are central to the understanding of the geographical past of the migrants who arrived and settled around the Alps.
