This heritage sites of Unesco in Germany is seen as a combined centre of trading and defensive systems; ‘Because of its unique situation in the borderland between the Frankish Empire in the South and the Danish kingdom in the North, Hedeby became the essential trading hub between continental Europe and Scandinavia as well as between the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. For more than three centuries – throughout the entire Viking era – Hedeby was among the largest and most important among the emporia – the new trading towns that developed in Western and Northern Europe. In the 10th century, Hedeby became embedded in the defensive earthworks of the Danevirke which controlled the borderland and the portage….’.
The heritage consists of ‘a spatially linked complex of earthworks, walls and ditches, a settlement, cemeteries and a harbour located on the Schleswig Isthmus of the Jutland Peninsula during the 1st and early 2nd millennia CE. …’
Danevirke does not mean ‘earthwork of the Dane’ as some scholars have pointed out; it means ‘virke’ means ‘bikri; means ‘selling point’ of people of Dan community who first invented agriculture in the world; Schleswig-Holstein refers to conglomeration of peoples of three regions : Schles, Og and El; the historicity of people of these three regions identify the geographical origin of Danites in the Cimbrian peninsula or in the region of Campa means ancient Kamboj. –Virke may also mark settlements of Dan Monks mean ‘Bhikshus’ because of birth of Zion in their community.
Hedeby refers to ancient biblical Obdah or Avadana of Pali and Indian puranic traditions. Avadana was the literary hub of the ancient world. It is very revealing to note that one of the walls here is named as Østervolden, which stands in between the Schlei and Eckernforde. Hedeby may also identify Adapa (-Mandapa), a Hebrew term which marks a temporary place for idol’s worship, or it may marks a place where religious discourses are held.
King Gudfred(808 A.D.)—King Gada Vardhan; Gada refers to Gad community;
Frisia—Brusha/Ros region; it may be Bisia/Bisiketan also;
Thyra—Thera/Tara; may refer to Queen of Tyre as same as Troy which was neighbouring to Dan settlements.
Gorm—Goma/Go-mukhi/Go-sringa/Gomati etc.
Eckernforde—Ekbartana river ghat.
A Baltic Sea inlet, and rivers provided ‘the shortest route between the seas for the migrants to enter into different regions of Europe. Historians say that (throughout the nineteenth century!) Denmark and Germany struggled for possession of the territory variously known as Sønderjyl land or Slesvig by the Danes and Schleswig by the Germans. Here Sønderjy is exactly the ‘Saundarjya’ of Odiya language ; but historically it refers to ‘Sundar’, a place where thousands of Arhats or Monks were living in one name ‘Sundar’ means ‘Beautiful’.
