The Amiens Cathedral built in the 13th century in the Hauts-de-France region under the Department of Somme is one of the largest churches in France. Standing in the heart of Picardy this cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of Amiens. It is also called the Cathedral Basilica of Our lady of Amiens.
Name Amiens’ root is in ‘Amon’( or Amun) of the Egyptian mythology(Greek Ammon) who is one of the Eight Gods of the Ogdoad; Amaunet is the name of wife of God Amon. This God along with other Seven Primordial Gods collectively holds the human psyche in such versified lines of human history that understanding of these Gods leads to the understanding of the Creation Story and also understanding of the science of origin of life on earth. From Amon, the word Ama or Amma has been derived which means ‘Mother’; Eight Ogdoad refers to the Asta Lokapala(asta means ‘eight’) of Indian puranas, and it is linked to Astarte of the Bible. God Yama’s Seat of Worship in Jerusalem comes under this Eight Ogdoad. Amon is Sun God, and all the Eight Gods’ place of origin makes a circular ring-like shape around Jerusalem. Ra of the Egyptian mythology is a real statement of human history and it is a place-name whose root is in Rhadamanthys of the Greeks. It is Radha of the Indian puranic traditions; so Our Lady of Amiens refers to this puranic name which identifies the City of Sun and the Eight Villages around it. Amon-Ra provides a geographical picture of the ‘inhabited world’ and this region is keenly associated with origin of life and the Origin of Gods. Our Lady of Amiens also marks the Women’s Haven of history and Fair Haven of the Bible. Amon’s seat is in Canaan of the Bible and it identifies Karnak of the Egyptian mythology and Konark of the Indian puranas. ‘La’ and ‘–am-‘ attached to some of the names of Churches pinpoints to geographical situations of ‘Ra’ and ‘Amon’ of ancient world.
