According to Unesco, ‘The saltworks of Salins-les-Bains and Arc-et-Senans provide an outstanding technical ensemble for the extraction and production of salt by pumping underground brine and the use of fire for its crystallisation, since at least the Middle Ages through to the 20th century… The Royal Saltworks .. bears witness to a fundamental cultural change in Europe …’ which announced the birth of the industrial society. In 1779 during Louis XIV ordered the construction of Royal Saltwork at Arc-et-Senans in the Department of Doubs next to the Forest of Chaux near Besancon. The Forest of Chaux is located in the region of Franche-Comte on the west–plains of the Jura Mountains.
This is an interesting heritage site that finds its geographical situation as a part of the Forest of Chaux; it is a fact of history, and Pliny the Elder has said in his Natural History that Dionysus was born in Charax. Alexander during his campaign against India visited this city of birthplace of Dionysus, the God of Wine, whose story is held in India as water is held in a pond through City of Nysa at the foot of Mt Sumeru as same as Mt Meru and Imaos which Alexander’s soldiers scaled to have a taste of its rich vineyards.
There was a salt mountain in ancient times at Balkh or in the Baktrina region or in the region of the settlements of Bacchus people near City of Nysa which Dionysus built in the name of his nurse; it was a place in the ancient Magadha whose king belonged to Senani clan, a shepherd group of royal people. Sujata who offered milk rice to the Buddha belonged to this Senani clan. Her father as well as name of her village was known by this name Senani.
Arc-et-Senans clarifies the doubt on geographical situation of Arc; it identifies the Senani or the royal house of Magadha which was in the charge of Arc region. Not only that keeping of the Chaux in Jura mountain region along with Doubs, Comte, and Besancon confirms to the exact remapping of their ancient counterparts by recreating the geographical neighbourhood of all places there. Memory of the ancient migrants focussed on exact reallocation of places of their ancient hometowns.
The royal family’s setting of the Saltworks at Arc-et-Senans and Bain refer to the salt mountain existed in the ancient world under the control of the King of Magadha . Bain seems to mean ancient Baktrian.
