Heritage site at the city of Lyon is located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, at the confluence of the Saône and the Rhône Rivers; this city is dominated by two hills: Fourvière to the west and Croix-Rousse to the east. Citing the long history of Lyon, scholars claim that it was once the capital of Trois Gaules in the 1st century BC. And thus has ‘continued to play a major role in Europe’s political, cultural and economic development’,

The historic identity of Lyon has mostly been confused that does not match with its present geographical status; what has been in said only refers to its earlier historic identity linked with the rivers Saone whose real identity was Sona or Sworna means ‘Gold’ (the gold carrying river of ancient history) and the Rhone or the Rohana river.

On the south the two rivers form the peninsula of Presqu’ile’ bounded by two hills;  Place Bellecour is located on it between the two rivers.

According to Unesco, ‘Humans have settled at this site destined for urbanization for more than two thousand years and built a city whose stages of development are still visible today: from the Roman vestiges of antique Lugdunum to the medieval streets on the slopes of Fourvière and the Renaissance dwellings of Vieux-Lyon, from the peninsula with a wealth of classical architecture to the slopes of Croix-Rousse with its very particular canut dwellings, which bear witness to an essential page in the history of the labouring classes of the 19th century…’.

Meaning of canut dwellings and meaning of Trois Gaules as scholars have understood them are not correct; canut refers to ancient royal dwellings at Kanauj and trios means the ‘three jewelled peaks’ which most of the royal houses adopted in their coat of arms. It also means the ‘Tri-ratna’. The interesting part of the historic site is linked with its symbol ‘Lion’(Siha), the royal symbol of the ancient world. This symbol reveals many things with it and its English translation from Siha to Lion is a great mistake.

What Dio Cassius has written in 43 B.C. it is completely right; it refers to the City of Lyon means Ran(-pura); the name that is again identical with Rann(means ‘Rannof Kachha’); Dio Cassius has written that the Roman Senate ordered to set up a settlement at for Roman war refugees at he confluence of the rivers Saone and Rhone. It should be seen in a compact geography where on the borders of the ancient Rome not beyond that.
