Unesco’s Mammoth Cave heritage site is in the state of Kentucky; scholars claim that it is the most extensive cave system in the world which ‘illustrates a number of stages of the Earth’s evolutionary history….. Mammoth Cave exhibits 100 million years of cave-forming action and presents nearly every type of cave formation known….’. The second-longest cave is Mexico’s Sac Actun.
The Park is located in Edmonson County with small areas extending eastward into Hart and Barren counties. The Green River runs through the park, with a tributary called Nolin River feeding into the Green just inside the park. Nolin River is a part of the watershed of the Mississippi River. It is formed in western LaRue County by the confluence of its North and South Forks. The North Fork flows past Hodgencille; the Nolin flows generally southwestwardly touching the countries of Hardin, Grayson, Hart, and Edmonson.
Lynn Camp Creek is a tributary of the Green River flowing past in Hart and LaRue counties.
Ancient migrants reached Kentucky from the ancient Nolin river basin; name of Nalini river appears in puranic literature. Its other name is Butodaka. Pali sources speak of Nalini Jataka. It narrates a story on kingdom of Kasi; the same source mentions Nalini was name of a Kingdom in Vessavana. Nalini means ‘Lotus’, and thus, it identifies the Lotus region. Nile and Nalini were two different rivers. While Nile was neighbourly to ancient Ithica, Nalini as branch of the Saon river marks the Cosal kingdom and the place of enlightenment of the Buddha. It becomes clear when Styx river is seen in the Mammoth Cave heritage site. Styx is as same as the river Saraswati of Indian puranas; it identifies the Ulysses’ hometown and Iliad country of Homer’s epics. Nile river was one of Styx’s branch river.
Kentucky is identified with Kantipura of Skanda purana and Vishnu purana; it marks the ancient. Kantaka Cetiya in the ‘south’; Kantakachala was its other name.
