Nikolay Sharankov of Sofia University is of the opinion that the piece of document which he found on the Black Sea island of St. John links the ancient Greek colonies of Apollonia Pontica with Heraclea Pontica. The two colonies are now the countries of Bulgaria and Turkey.
Nikolay again says that this paper carries the decree drafted by the assembly of Apollonia Pontica; and it has been carved into a stone that dates to the third century B.C., that describes the cordial ties between the two cities.
History of Apollonia and history of Heraclea were different from the history of Pontica. The latter was a different place identified with ‘Pont’. The geographical identity of Punt can be seen and verified from the accounts of the Periplus itself. These three places were different from each other. Appolinia identifies seat of worship of Apollo at City of Sun itself. Again ancient Turkey is not at all related with the history of Apollonia. What was the geographical situation of the Black Sea in the Bible? Why it was called Black Sea? And what is its description in the OT? Heraclea identifies Pillars of Heracles; how it defines itself now?
