South-eastern Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast does not represent the land of the ancient Byzantine. But archaeologists of Bulgaria have found a 14th-century Byzantine gold coin at the Byzantine frontier fortress of Rusokastro. One side of the coin depicts Mary alongside the fortifications of Constantinople, while the other shows Jesus as he crowns two Byzantine emperors. Ancient Byzantines’ geographical relationship with Jerusalem and Jericho as neighbours on the ‘north’ has not been studied before issuing such statement. Ancient Baku, same as Mecca, also has not been looked for near it.
