End of the Earth or Edge of the Earth is neither a Roman nor a Greek concept of the ancient world; this concept can be visualised from the shape of the landmass of the peripheral map of the ‘inhabited world’ of Ptolemy itself. Unless one sees this particular map one may not be able to understand the geographical meaning of this term.
Rome was at the ‘end of the earth’ or at the ‘edge of the earth’ renders a deep meaning for this ancient world capital which defines its time period along with the name of the place itself. Ancient Lanka has been describes as Cupola of the Earth.
Biblical Commentators misunderstood the term ‘Eschaton’, and this made whole of the Escatology and Paulian studies into conflicting zone of modern science on ‘end of the earth’ belief.
Science did not test the meaning of this term, and took it as a part of ancient superstition on the shape of the world. This is the shortcomings of the science that holds certain individualised truth of its modern belief on the ancient world.
Many modern writers hold it as a mythical concept of the ancient geographical situation of the world; and this is wrong. The four-quarters of the world became four-world system and writers started criticising each other without taking into consideration climatic changes happened to the islandic shape of the ‘inhabited world’ with ocean covered on its four sides.
Indian puranas gives a good view of this egg-shaped landmass of the ‘first land’ when a system of worship of the ‘Four–Seas’ through four earthen water containers developed into a tradition.
All ancient literature texts certain truths on this landmass with gradual depletion of its geographical situations but science took a ‘blind-man’s view’ on the topic and that mindset continues and this sets to lie at the bedrock of the theory of evolution and origin of life on earth.
Alexander’s campaign beyond OI)KOUME/NH, and description on Thule still remain undecided. This is where modern scientific view on shape of the ancient world suffers from individualised perception of scientific truth.
