Angeliki Simosi of the Swiss Archaeological School of Greece claims to have uncovered traces of a gymnasium dating to the fourth century B.C. at the site of Eretria, which she identifies as a sanctuary-site dedicated to Eileithyia. Earlier excavations works at this site of the sanctuary(Evia) found a well containing some 100 terracotta cups dating to the third century B.C.
Goddess Eileithiya is same as El- Ithiya that identifies God El of Ithica; and name of El or Ela identifies the site of Homer’s Iliad; Name of this Goddess is not linked to childbirth or midwifery.
