Only Ptolemy’s peripheral map of the ‘inhabited world’ offers a solution to reach at the meaning of the ancient term ‘junction of the seas’; the Periplus as well as the Bible and also most of the Indian puranas bear a good testimony on the bending of the sea at one particular point and that defines the position of Sheol at the bottom of the world. From this point arises the meaning of the ‘eastern sea’, ‘western sea’, and the ‘southern sea’.
