Prof Filip Taterka of the Polish Academy of Sciences is of the view that ‘Land of Punt’ should be sought in the southern Sudan or neighbouring its coastal regions. Looking at the secretary birds(Sagittarius serpentarius) in the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, he suggests this. A scholar has little option to carry such a view on the Land of Punt as the Periplus clearly shows this land in the Erythraean Sea region. Moreover, scholars are divided on geographical existence of this famous country of the ancient world. if it is as same as Potana, or Potala country, then it is one of the Sixteen Good-lands of the Avesta and cannot be outside the Saka island itself ; if it is as same as Pan, or Panchaia of the frankincense capital, the, it is again not in Sudan at all.
