Prof Daniëlle Slootjes’ review of the Richard Evans’s(ed.) book, Mass and Elite in the Greek and Roman Worlds. From Sparta to Late Antiquity(BMCR, 2018.02.27) takes into consideration of research papers of different scholars like : Baker-Brian, Clifford Ando, Fergus Millar, Harmut Ziche, John Hilton, Lisa Marie Mignone, Loonis Logghe, Matthew Trundle, Philip Bosman, Robert Morstein-Marx, Sansone di Campobianco, Suzanne Sharland, and Richard Evans from Classical Athens through Late Antiquity. These papers analyse the available sources of their respective subjects. But geographical elements relating to the subject of the papers do not reveal the real Classical past; speech of the Spartan general Brasidas in Thucydides (4.126.5) does not consider the real Sparta though Ptolemy’s maps clearly locate this place. In historical and philological analysis of Livy’s Book 24, which explained the events around the fall of the dynasty of Hieronymus in Syracuse in 214 B.C. meaning of Hieronymus as Hiranmaya remains unanswered. An examination by scholars of Satire 1.6 of Horace, does not show that ancient Rome is not represented by the present Rome.
Scholars do not know that Manichaeans refers to the worship of Serpent (Naga) King Mani. In Indian puranic tradition this Naga King is highly revered. A special date for his worship is found in the calendar. Even there are temples in remote villages where this king is worshipped as a deity. Bhagavata purana very clearly writes on this king who deported Sage Bhrugu out of his kingdom to ancient Babylon. Sage Bhrugu was the first teacher of the Buddha who died one week before his enlightenment. Thus, Manicheism identifies King Mani whose kingdom was in the Negev region near Manasarovara Lake.
The interesting part of this Manicheism is that ancient Ajodhya was the seat of Naga or the Serpent Kings. Dasaratha belonged to this clan. Rome as birthplace of Rama, the God incarnated of the epic the Ramayana, finds Rome as seat of worship of Naga kings. Pali texts are of much help to read this historical account.
