Many scholars are working on different aspects of Maya civilization; but recently Prof Joanne Baron of the Bard Early College Network analysing the fermented chocolate in an artwork dating from A.D. 250 to 900 suggests that it may have been used as currency beginning around the eighth century A.D. by Maya people The artwork, he suggests, depicts market exchanges and tribute payments to Maya kings; Maya people were collecting more cacao than the palace actually consumes’, he says.
Maya people of the ancient world are as same as the people of the Mauryan dynasty who were associated with the Kingdom of Mayura, and the Peacock Throne. It is again as same as Garuda or Gauda kingdom of history. They were displaced from their ancient settlements after the Great Flood or after the volcanic eruptions. Very nice accounts on them are preserved in the Bible as well as in Pali texts.
