Pali texts mention on the ancient Moriyan clan which finds Asoka’s mother Dhamma hailed from this clan; mother of Chandragupta(Sandrokottos) also belonged to this royal clan which, according to this source, sees Moriyas as residing in Pipali forest. Originally, Sakyan princes of Kapilavastu also hailed from this clan, for which reason Asoka said that he belongs to the clan of the Buddha.
The buildings of the Moriyas were made of blue-stones which then gave a view of the neck of a peacock. Buddhist literature speaks of Moriyaratha, a district in Dakshinadesha(Negev or ‘south’); and mentions names of places like, Mayura-parivana, Mayura-pattana, and Mayura-pasana,or places that are seen attached to the name of mayura means ‘Peacock’. In Pali, peacock is called ‘mora’.
