Lack of geographical knowledge on ancient world through Ptolemy’s maps and also through maps of Eratosthenes has misled scholars of all hues who have written something or have said many things on this Ram Setu.
Ancient Ajodhya in U.P; Ram Setu in Kerala; parts of Kosala distributed in Odisha and in its neighbouring states ; Mt Gandhamardana’s geographical situation is not in anyone’s mind to locate this Setu which also goes by the colonial name of Adam’s Bridge.
Ptolemy’s peripheral map of the ‘inhabited world’ shows Lanka on the ‘south’ ; Sri Lankan National Government admits that Sri Lanka is as same as Ceylon, Simhala, Taprovana, Oja-dvipa, and Lanka. But in reality, these six places identify six different places.
Lanka of the Ram Setu of the Ramayana does not represent the present Sri Lanka which is the ‘second settlement’ of the ancient Ramanka people who migrated there from ancient Kalinga. Lanka which is linked to the Ram Setu identifies Lanka of Ptolemy’s Map of the ‘inhabited world’. it is a place on the bank of the river Indus, same as river Daya of the Kalinga war.
Ptolemy knows this Setu as Rama’s Bridge and has specified a definite latitude for it like river Indus. But scholars of our times who have gone far away from Ptolemy’s maps and do not have any knowledge on Ptolemy’s Geography have become Members in the Team of Scholars to locate this ‘Setu’.
They do not even know how Alberuni in his travel accounts on ‘India’, has written on this ‘Cupola’ of the world.
Most interesting facts on this bridge are well preserved in different Indian puranas. But present day scholars are unable to decipher them. This is our state of academic scholarship, and we are fighting cases in courts to locate the ancient world, and digging earth to discover the ancient world from fragments of stones without having any geographical knowledge of our past. The best thing would be to identify the Madhyadesha where the epics happened. Let us see, whether the southern limit of Madhyadesha falls on the present Sri Lanka. Zend Avesta has taken note of this Bridge, and it should be studied from this angle.
