This unique world heritage site’s history magnificently tells its past where like other Islamic names, it explores dynastic names with styling of its name: Qul’a, Beni, and Hammad, explain three different royal houses having their immense historic base in the ‘inhabited world’. A Muslim city, but it does not speak of its Islamic past. When it speaks of its Islamic origin, it marks the ancient migration of its people during 8th-9th c A.D.
Unesco finds, ‘This ensemble of preserved ruins, at 1,000 m altitude, is located in a mountainous setting of striking beauty on the southern flank of Djebel Maâdid. The Qal’a of Beni Hammad was founded at the beginning of the 11th century by Hammad, son of Bologhine (founder of Algiers), and abandoned in 1090 under the threat of a Hilalian invasion’.
According to scholars, the city finds root of its name in Arabic al-Jaza’ir means ‘the islands’; it is related to Jazair Bant Mazghanna means ‘island of the Mazghnna Tribe’. It is a country in the Maghreb region of Northwest f Africa; the archaeological site of Qal’a of Beni Hammad is located in the Hodna Mountains north-east of the town of M’Sila. Beni Hammad Fort is near the town of Maadid(aka Maadhid) southeast of Algiers in the Maghreb. The remains of the emirs’ palace is known as Dal-al-Bahr. It was the first capital of the Hammadid emirs and the mosque, is the biggest after that of Mansourah and its minaret is the oldest in Algeria after that of Sidi Boumerouane. Scholars think the Hammadid civilization has now disappeared.
The composite nature of migrants who arrived in Algiers presents a unified story of their ancient homeland where ancient Bologaon or Bolonga or Boulang then existed. This pinpoints the settlements of Barbar tribes there. Ancient Numidinas, Phoenicians, Carthginians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Umayyad, Abbasids, Idrisids, Aghlabid, Rustamid, fatimids, Zirid, Hammadids, Almoravids, Almohads, Spaniards, Ottomans, and the Franks existed as neighbours in a compact geographical pocket. Most of the places which have gone into the descriptive history of Algiers collectively explain the geographical identity of the ‘inhabited world’ from where ancient migration first took place..
