It is another interesting and one of the most unique world heritage sites which is credited with many historical elements within its ensembles that speaks of the ancient Fon Tribe of the ‘inhabited world’. Royal Palaces of Aborney pinpoints to the kingdom of ancient Avanti. But scholars find Aborney as belonging to the Kingdom of Dahomey whose founder was Wegbaja. Culture of the Kingdom is called Aja-Fon. The Kings’ palace included a two-storey building known as ‘akuehue’ and houses of the spirit of the king are called Djexo, and tomb of the king is known as Adoxo; these places are considered as sacred places.
This powerful kingdom on the western coast of Africa is no more today, but the uninhabited royal palaces are reminiscent of the glorious past of its kings who were known by various names such as King Houegbadja, King Ghézo, King Glélé, King Agja, King Akaba and King Agaoli Agbo and others.
