According to Unesco’s website, ‘Paphos has been inhabited since the Neolithic period and they were worshippers of the deity Aphrodite. Scholars claim that Aphrodite was born in this island.
Name of Paphos is indicative Pahar of the Pali texts, also known as Payar; anciently this town in the neighbourhood of Rajgriha was called Little Rajagriha, capital of ancient Magadha, or the biblical Megiddo, Its etymological identification also marks Bebhar, another important city of Magadha near Rajagriha.
Historicity of Cyprus is very expansive as it is identified with the seat of worship of Kubera, God of Wealth and Trade; this God is one of the Eight Gods of the Astarte or Astalokapala of Indian puranas. Its geographical location finds it very close to Jerusalem, seat of worship of Jama, the God of Death. Gods of Astarte and their seats of worships identify the primordial region of Uttara Kuru or Ottorokorrah of Ptolemy.
If scholars find this place as birthplace of Goddess Aphrodite they should identify the city of Troy and the river Scamander along with Hellespont at Paphos in the present day Cyprus. The two sites of the present day Cyprus, i,e Kato Paphos and Kouklia refers to ancient places: Kakata and Kokila, name of two birds also.
Greek Aphrodite is as same as Parbati of whose birthplace was at Prabhavati(pura) or Prabha-vati-pura, that exactly identifies ‘Paphos’ or ‘Prabha’. And this Prabhavatipur of Indian puranas is again the same as Troy of Homer’s Iliad.
Tombs of the Kings, which scholars translate as Tafoi ton Vasileon, marks the ancient city of Baisali or Vasileon, identifying Mt Imaos with it.. The Outstanding Universal Value of the place for which Unesco is interested should be explored along with geographical components of the Gods of Astarte as a ‘whole’. Cyprus is not at all different from Byzantium region. It forms one of the seven places of the Byzantium. How can a scholar see Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Byzantium separated by thousands of miles today?
