This world heritage site is another store-house of facts on ancient world history that forthrightly rejects the make-belief biblical history of archaeologists. Unesco, on this heritage site, writes, ‘In a mountainous region in the heart of Ethiopia, some 645 km from Addis Ababa, eleven medieval monolithic churches were carved out of rock. Their building is attributed to King Lalibela who set out to construct in the 12th century a ‘New Jerusalem’, after Muslim conquests halted Christian pilgrimages to the holy Land. Lalibela flourished after the decline of the Aksum Empire’.
Geographical situation of ancient Ethiopia should be searched within the descriptions of the Periplus of the Erythraean Sea; Aethiopia or Ethiopia, both are one and the same ; and its ancient geographical situation finds it as a part of the western sea. It was more closer to ancient Berenice and Azania. Theban princes who had Nubian and Egyptian connections, were historical representatives of the Kingdom of Ethiopia. Josephus (Antiquities of the Jesus, II,9) writes that Ethiopians were driven back into their capital at Saba, ‘to which city Cambyses afterwards gave the name of Meore in compliment to his sister….it being situated at the conflux of the rivers Astaphus and Astabora with the Nile..’. Scholars find root of Ethiopia with ‘Itiopyavan’ or ‘atyob’ means ‘incense’ related with ‘frankincense country’, Mahra, Palaesimundu or Palaesamudda. But Indian puranic tradition knew them as ‘Atharvan’ from which name of Atharva Veda originated; ‘atyoba’ means ‘attaba’( in Odiya language) or ‘forest’. Incense Land was also known as the Land of the Habashat who were identified both as Ethiopians and also as Cushites. This name Ethiopia is very peculiar in nature as its historical identity is cojoined with Arabians as well as with Egyptian dynasty. Sidonia and Ethiopian are also conjoined with it. Inhabitants of Seres, Sacae and Abasa similarly find their historical identity connected with the Ethiopians. This shows that these people were forest dwellers means the Atharbanas who were then living in the Sun-Rise Country means the City of Sun. That is the reason why they were identified with the Arabians. Ptolemy knew them as Ya-tha people and some scholars see them as Yuei-chi of the Zungaria.
Identification of these historic people paves the way to identify the ancient world and its geographical details. They were neighbourly to ancient Jerusalem. Thus Lalibela is as same as Arbela or Arabela which is again as same as Alaba or Al-borg or Uruvela of the Buddhist literature. Here,
