Unesco’s heritage site Canal du Midi marks the 360 km navigable waterway linking the Mediterranean and the Atlantic ocean. As usual Unesco’s scholarship takes into consideration the 328 civil structures standing in this 360 km long way that collectively exhibits remarkable engineering designs. These structures have been built during 1667 and1694 only.
History does not recognise, and speak the truth on ancient world when it refuses to interact with Ptolemy’s maps and also with maps of Eratosthenes; with lapses of time academic scholarship widens the misleading paths of its own creation which scholars tread generation after generation in structured lines of references. Research works which build a system of network idealises an academic relationship without geographical fraternity of ancient names.
Name ‘Mediterranean’ is a name which ancient mariners from the region of ancient Medea or Medina or Madi/Madhi gave to new settlement after their migration. Present heritage site marks the ancient migrants’ new dwelling areas only. Name ‘Midi’ is as same as Median of the Quran and Madra or Madi of Indian puranas. It refers to a place at the junction of the seas which means meeting point of the Southern Sea, Eastern Sea and the Western Sea. Such a geographical term can be generated or visualised only when a place exhibits its elliptical or egg-shaped situation like the one Ptolemy has given in making his map for the Jambudvipa or the seat of the first land of human civilization. Mt Modiane, Modiere and Madura identify the one and the same place which was a Coast Country and its history is linked to Pandion Kingdom and to the story of Heracles.
Biblical and classical scholars have accepted the present Mediterranean Sea as one of the ‘Three Seas’ ; this view point thus has misled history in such terrible and magnified ways that it has built a giant network of its own fault with passage of time. Its impact on all aspects and on each and every branch of human knowledge is felt when classical and biblical scholarships join hands to describe the historical narratives of the region excluding the geographical situation of the ‘inhabited world’ as given both by Ptolemy and Eratosthenes. The subject matter has gone beyond the control of academic scholarship itself. To shed its own works into dustbin of history is not possible today as library-selves all over the world are been filled up with books carrying wrong views on the ancient world and on origin of life. What has happened with this Unesco’s heritage site has happened with each and every heritage site with delicious reasons. Median or Midi or Medina means the Women’s country of the ancient world. It recognises with it the ancient ‘See’ or the ‘Sri’ region at Triveni on its immediate neighbourhood.
