Unesco finds this heritage site linked with mining activities in the whole of western world. According to scholars, the town of Goslar, close to the Rammelsberg mines, played an important part in the Hanseatic League. Unesco says, ‘from the 10th to the 12th century it became one of the seats of the Holy Roman Empire.
