On the Island of Borneo in Malaysian Sarawak State, the Gunung Mulu National Park stands which holds the ‘most studied tropical ‘karst’ area in the world. The Sarawak Chmaber, 600 m by 415 m and 80 m high is the largest known cave chamber of the world’.
Unesco’ observation on this heritage site is that sequence of its ‘terrestrial alluvial deposits provides an important record of glacial – interglacial cycles with the series of uplifted caves ranging from 28 m to over 300 m above sea level are at least 2 to 3 million years old, indicating uplift rates of about 19 cm per 1,000 years…..The geological Melinau Formation contains a remarkable concentration of caves, revealing a geological history of over more than 1.5 million years…..The property is home to one of the world’s finest examples of the collapse process in karstic terrain and provides outstanding scientific opportunities to study theories on the origins of cave faunas’.
Malaysia is the second home of the migrants from Malaya or Malava country of the ancient literature. Sarawak whose root is ‘sarak’ means a group of faith-followers to whom scholars differ to consider them as the Jainas or the Buddhists. Literary heritage of Malava or the Malla country is very wide and it owns one of the finest geographical descriptions of the ancient world. Mulu identifies the fort or ‘gada’ of Mula country or the ‘first’ or the ‘base’ country of the world. In the epic Ramayana, site of Malada and Karusha identify the hermitage of Sage Viswamitra. Here Karusha, seems to be the root of ‘karst’. The people were Sakas, or the Skythians.
Name Gunung, seems to marks Girinagar or Girnar which was home to most of the ancient religions; and the Bible knows it as Mt Gerizim; it identifies its geographical position at the centre of the earth and was near to Mt Alborg. Borneo pinpoints its ancientness with Baranasi or Varana or Berenice of the Periplus. Labi Forest Reserve in Brunei that adjoins Gunung Mulu National Park interestingly confirms owning the same ancient geographical origin along with Malaya country of the epic the Ramayana.
