History of Mozambique and its ‘universal historical value’ which connects migrants’ story with their ‘original’ land should be seen through the ‘stone’ whose local name is ‘maculi’.
Mozambique Island’s cultural diversity expands its history beyond its present maritime existence that defines its regional relationship with Bantu, Swahili, Arab, Persia, India and Europe.
Name of Mozambique spans height and breadth of time which cannot be belittled by human scholarship today. Mozambique is a combination of three terms: Moza+ Ambi+ que; that identifies people of three places neighbouring to each other and holding tightly the creation story with story of their land.
Moza refers to Moghas, a Sage(Thunder God Indra), a place(Land of the Magians or the Mozas), and the Dog Star(identifies the land of the frankincense); Ambi marks the land of Goddess Amba, Ambike, and Amblike; and ‘que’, no doubt, is as same as Arka or the land of the God Sun. This completes the creation story with other terms like : mokuli derived from the name mo-kie(‘Magha’, name of a month, and a God); mo-kia-shi-lo(name of the month ‘Margashira’ falling before Magha) defines its origin along with geographical terms like, mocrotu whose Arabic name is mghairot; in Mahri, it is called mghar, and it is mokhr in Somali. This word throws light on biblical Hebrew msh, and the salvation story connected with the land at Canaan.
Mozambique’s capital at Lourenço Marques, now Maputo, identifies itself with this story.
