Unesco’s heritage site at San Juan should be seen through the historic meaning attached to the name ‘San’ and ‘Juan’ along with meaning of Puerto Rico.
San—-refers to the sacred San region of the ancient Babylon which was then a part of Cush’s kingdom. It was that place where the Buddha descended from Heaven by a Jewelled ladder after which the king of Babylon aspired to build a ladder to the Heaven. This building of ladder heaven signifies the physical ‘Heaven’ at see that marks the seat of Indra, King of Heaven at See.
Juna—means ‘Jina or Zion, which again refers to the Buddha, a Teacher of Profound Wisdom;
Puerto—means, ‘Bharata’ or Bharta;
Rico—-or Reich or Ruk refers to Uruk or Arka, or Arch that identifies the City of Sun, or The Temple of Sun.
San Juan—-It identifies the Relics-Temple of a Teacher of great learning;
Unesco observes that ‘La Fortaleza, along with the later fortifications of Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Castillo San Cristóbal and San Juan de la Cruz (El Cañuelo), and a large portion of the original San Juan City Wall, were built between the 16th and 20th centuries to protect the city and the Bay of San Juan…’..
La Fortaleza is the official residence of the Governor of Puerto Rico; it was built between 1533 and 1540 to defend the harbour of San Juan. But the structure is known as Palacio de Santa Catalina(St Catalina’s Palace).
The Old San Juan in Spanish is called Viejo San Juan located at the ‘northwest triangle’; its area correlates to the Ballaja, Catedral, Marina, Mercado, San Cristol, and San Frnacisco subbarrios of barro San Juna Antiguo.
The island of Old San Juan connects to the mainland through Santurce, by three bridges, ‘Puente Dos Hermanos’(Ashford Avenue), ‘Puente G.Esteves’(Ponce de Leon Avenue), and ‘Puente San Antonio(Fernandez Juncos Avenue).
