Unesco puts the history of Shibum heritage site to have begun from 18th c A D. whose nickname is Manhattan of the desert. ‘It was the capital of Hadramaut after the destruction in AD 300 of the earlier capital Shabwa, which was located further to the west along the wadi, and the southern bank of the wadi is now called al-Sahil’. This description of the heritage site weaves stories of two ancient names that sees Shibum or Shabwa and Hadramaut people met at one geographical plain; but its people were identified with Wadi Hadramaut culture. But the ancient cultural identity of this people never identified them with ‘the tall cluster of sun-dried mud brick tower houses’ as noted in Unesco’s literature, which is ‘located at an important caravan halt on the spice and incense route across the Southern Arabian plateau’, the city whose dwellings are seen to have stood ‘up to seven storeys high developed on a fortified, rectangular grid plan of streets and squares’.
There is no difference between the earlier name Shabwa and the present name Shibaum of the site that holds the history of the ancient name of Greek Thebes and to which both Pali and Inidan puranic literature knew as Sivi. This oldest city of human civilization is known by this term ‘Wadi’ whose root is ‘Adi’ means ‘Beginning’; History of this people is very interesting as they call each other with the name of ‘Sivaya’ that identifies them with God Siva or Mahadeva. The city and its people were identified with one name ‘Sivaya’ from which name Shibum has been originated that finds them at their ‘second settlement’ at this heritage site. Sivi people were using one ‘kasaya’ (yellow) cloth. It was the city of Vessantara Jataka, and thus was at the heart of Greek mythology. Name of Yemen identifies its people’s historic identity with ‘Amana’ from which name of Omana originated but historic Omana and the present Omana are now differently located.
Unesco’ finding of the Hadramaut culture with Shibum site tells a different story of the same people who migrated from the same geographical plain on the bank of the river Saraswati where anciently Amana situated near Olympia of the Greeks but were separated by their new settlement sites. Hadramaut refers to Udra country same as Udaka to which map of Eratosthenes shows as Erdkarte-des.
