The philosophy of ‘Philosophers’ has changed with time. Now they are toeing the ‘philosophy of division’ that particularises a ‘land’ which certifies human body’s beginning and the end.
Kanishka wages a war to procure ‘philosopher’ Asvaghosa for his kingdom. A vanquished king after his defeat in the war says, ‘I can give my daughter but not my philosopher’.
Alexander needs philosopher Kalama to accompany him in his war against India. King Pasenadi of Kosala asks the Buddha that his ministers advise him in a wrong ‘way’; the Buddha says, ‘they will be in the hell for millions of years’. Upagupta, prior to Asoka adopting the Dhamma when meets the king on his invitation, comes and touches his back with the intention of consoling the king after his victory in the Kalinga war that finds millions suffered from it. His bodyguards, as it requires by royal decree, raise their swords to cut off the philosopher’s hands. The King controls the anger of his men.
Once a very young monk meets Asoka who salutes him and says, ‘Oh King, don’t tell anybody that I saluted you’; the King remains silent. Again the monk after some time appears inside a small water pot(!) from where he addresses the King, ‘Oh King, don’t tell anybody that I am inside this closed pot’. For the first time the King breaks his silence, and answers how a follower of the Dhamma can tell lies’. The monk disappears.
Wonderful stories exist on philosophers and spiritual masters that depict a picture of the honour and respect which they receive from one and all around them. Their ‘detached’ life and feeling builds the bedrock of their thoughts from which society of their times learns. Now look at the XXIV WCP at Beijing; there are one hundred Parallel Sessions to take care of the philosophers, young and old, presenting their ‘Papers’ and ‘Talks’.
Read some of the ‘Sessions’ which are named like this : ‘Chinese Philosophy’ and also different from it is ‘Confucianism’; ‘Russian Philosophy’, ‘Indian Philosophy’, ‘Greek Philosophy’, ‘South Korean Philosophy’ etc. and counters of this market of thoughts of philosophy mark name of respective ‘countries’ of philosophers with which, a philosopher identifies himself with and, perhaps, ‘thoughts’ are made according to the government they serve. There are mind blowing topics to be discussed here which no one has time to sit and listen rather the tourist guided moments of the seven days of this week is packed with best of Chinese cuisines.
What the dictionary of philosophy does not contain is that Confucius does not belong to the present day China; the South Korean philosophy differs from other countries on the meaning of ‘Eschate’ ; Hebr ‘Adat Yisrael’ is as same as ‘Adayita’ philosophy of India. Ur of the Flood Story of the Bible where Abraham’s father Azar was king represents Uruvela of the Buddhist texts. And Mt Zion of the Bible represents the Place of Enlightenment of the Buddha as he is addressed as Ananta Jina, means a Great Teacher of Profound Wisdom. Sri Jagannath Temple at Puri carries an inscription on its body which speaks of ‘Adayita’ clan’s ancient homeland in the present Odisha.
Nippon which is a Japanese word for the ‘Sun’, in reality, identifies ‘Nibban’ not the sun(‘p’ for ‘b’). Greek philosophy is linked to ‘cow’ and the House of Cadmus where Sage Kapila of the Indian puranas and the fifth of the 24 incarnations, was born. He is identified with the first ‘lipi’ or alphabet of human civilization. That the Buddha is a Greek philosopher and Kapilavastu was a Greek settlement on the bank of the river Saraswati has not entered into classroom texts of India.. Even Indian philosophy does not clarify it stand on the meaning of the word/name ‘Sarata’.
Russian philosophy does not know the geographical meaning of ‘Ras, or Rass’. That it identifies a place which is linked to the hermitage of Sage Valmiki of the Ramayana, is unknown to academic world. Name of Valmiki stands for ancient Babylon is nowhere in our history books. It is as same as Byblos of the Bible and it identifies the ancient Balhika or Bahika is yet to receive academic recognition.
All the five lands of the epic the Mahabharata has gone into the Bible, and Hebrew identifies the Hari-varsha of the Indian puranas where name of ‘Hari’ stands to identify a group of wonderful people in one name only. Similarly, people of Sivi country(Thebes of the Greeks) are identified with one name ‘Siva’ who were then wearing one coloured and one type of dress throughout their country.
Biblical scholarship is not aware of the fact that ‘Christ’ was a ‘title’ in ancient times. This identifies a particular group of followers in the region of Kakustha who were then using white dresses. Indian puranas mention ‘Krousta’ as name of a royal clan.
Name of Greek philosophers, Socrates, Aristotle, and Plato identify place-names.
How reality exists, and how it flourishes with nationalistic approach in our academic texts, is all before us to see. Conferences are held ritually to maintain and stabilize differences at personalised definitions of philosophical terms, and we build new ways of differences to install new identities of ourselves.
